The natural life of Swansea
I have always rather enjoyed books that describe a year in the country. You know the sort of thing: where a local nature enthusiast describes the changing seasons in some exotic part of Britain like Oxford, or Somerset.
As I occasionally walk in different parts of Swansea, where I now live, I wondered if the same was possible in a city. Would there be enough to see and, more importantly, would I be able to describe it? It seemed to me that there was only one way to find out. Go walking every week and see what I can see.
As I write this, the experiment has only just begun. I decided to record my walks with a mixture of photographs, audio and maybe video (we will see). These web pages record the results. I hope you enjoy them.
For now, the title is a working one, so dont be surprised it a lot changes over the cming year.
First Item - Test
Dec - 18th - With a 30 mph wind whipping up from the South East, and the effects of a heavy cold still making me feel pretty dreadful, this was the park at its meanest. It seems to have been the story ever since November and our new Global Warming normal. Squinting my eyes, I checked on the birds, but, I suspect they were far more sensible than me, huddled up, protecting themselves from the cold in some bush or in the trees. So I fell to thinking about the changes in the bird population itself in the 30 or more years I have walked this walk.
